What it is

The engagement every shapework. relationship begins with.

Workflow Discovery is a one-week operational diagnostic. We sit with your team, trace how work actually moves, find the bottlenecks, and deliver a ranked list of opportunities to improve how your business operates.

Most operational consulting starts with a proposal and ends with a slide deck nobody acts on. This starts with the work and ends with a roadmap you can act on the next day.

It is the entry point to The Method. It is also a complete engagement on its own. Some clients hire us only for Workflow Discovery and use the roadmap to drive their own internal change. Most move into implementation work afterward. Both paths are valid.

What you walk away with

Four concrete deliverables.

i.

A current-state map of your operation.

Every workflow that matters, documented as it actually runs. Not the org chart. Not the SOPs nobody follows. The real work, traced end to end.

ii.

A ranked list of opportunities.

Every friction point we find, named, scored by severity, and ranked by the cost it carries. You see exactly where the business is leaking time, money, and attention, and what to do about each one.

iii.

A prioritized roadmap.

What to fix first, what to fix next, what can wait. Sequenced by impact and effort so leadership can act without guessing.

iv.

One quick win, implemented.

We do not just deliver a document. We implement one tangible improvement to your operation during the week. Something you can see and measure before the engagement closes.

One week. Structured.

Day 01

Kickoff and context.

Ninety minutes with leadership. We learn the business, the goals, the friction you already know about, and the friction you suspect but cannot name.

Days 02–03

Mapping.

We interview the team, trace the workflows, and document the current state. Short structured conversations, not all-day workshops. Most team members give us 30 to 45 minutes.

Day 04

Analysis and quick win.

We synthesize what we found, score the opportunities, and implement one quick win live. By the end of the day, something tangible is already different.

Day 05

Delivery and walk-through.

We sit with leadership and walk through the map, the ranked opportunities, and the roadmap. You leave the meeting with a complete document and a clear sense of what comes next.

What happens after

The roadmap is yours.

Workflow Discovery is a complete engagement. Whether you continue working with us or not, the diagnostic, the map, and the roadmap belong to you.

Most clients move into implementation work after Discovery because seeing the friction makes it impossible to leave alone. That work follows The Method: Shape (redesigning the highest-leverage workflows), Build (implementing automation and AI where it pays), and Run (staying close as the operator while the change holds).

If you want that work, we make it easy to continue. If you do not, the Discovery still pays for itself.

Common questions

What people ask before they sign.

How much of our team's time does this take?
Three to five hours total across the week for most teams. We do most of the heavy lifting on our end. Your team's role is to talk to us during their mapping interviews and show up for the kickoff and delivery meetings.
Do we have to hire you for the next phase?
No. Workflow Discovery is a complete engagement on its own. The roadmap is yours regardless. Most clients do move into implementation work afterward, but that is a separate decision made after they have the diagnostic in hand.
What kinds of businesses is this for?
Owner-led businesses typically five to fifty employees that have outgrown the way they operate. Professional services firms, agencies, healthcare practices, real estate brokerages, and other operations-heavy small businesses.
Is this remote or in person?
Both are options. We serve clients worldwide remotely and work with Wilmington-area businesses on-site when it makes sense. The deliverable is the same either way.
What is the quick win?
It varies. We identify one tangible improvement we can implement inside a week and we ship it. Past examples include automated lead routing, missed-call text-back systems, document handling workflows, CRM cleanup, and reporting dashboards. We commit to the quick win after the mapping phase so we know it will land.
What if we already know what's broken?
You probably know some of it. Discovery finds the rest. The friction you can already name is usually the visible part. The deeper losses are the ones nobody on the team can see clearly because they live inside the work.
What does it cost if we want to continue?
Implementation engagements are scoped after Discovery based on what the roadmap recommends. We will give you a clear proposal at the end of the week if you want one. There is no pressure to continue and no markup on the Discovery fee.
